Landfill Operations
County-Owned Landfills and Transfer Stations
In July 2001, the County of San Bernardino contracted Burrtec Waste Industries, Inc. to operate and maintain their solid waste disposal facilities located throughout the county. This includes both active and closed Landfills, Transfer Stations and Community Collection Centers.
Operations are done in a manner that ensures public health, protects the environment, meets or exceeds all regulatory standards, diverts targeted materials from the waste stream, and maximizes landfill capacity at active landfills.
Burrtec runs on-site recycling programs for white goods and scrap metal, and at certain sites, cardboard, bottles, cans, plastics, green waste, wood and construction/demolition debris.
We clean up illegal dumps on and surrounding all county-owned disposal facilities to provide a clean, vector-free and sanitary condition to ensure public health and maintain the appearance of surrounding communities.
Employees are trained and equipped to provide a safe environment for disposal site customers, both public and commercial.
We run a load check program at disposal sites to effectively screen incoming loads for Hazardous Wastes and other Prohibited Materials.
We manage and monitor the county septage waste facilities at the Barstow and Landers landfills.
We monitor and maintain over two dozen county-owned closed landfills. This plays a major role in protecting county property, the local residents, air quality, water quality and the general environment.
Transfer Stations and Community Collection Centers provide convenient, clean and safe locations for customers to dispose of their waste locally instead of having to travel to the nearest landfill.
